Governor of Louisiana intends to fly the MAGA flag at Trump’s inauguration

To commemorate Donald Trump’s impending inauguration, the governor of Louisiana has declared that a MAGA flag will be flown.

Republican Governor Jeff Landry of Louisiana stated Friday that the “Make America Great Again” flag would be flown over the governor’s house in observance of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.

In his statement, Landry said, “Today, under President Trump, begins a renaissance in this Nation.” One that prioritizes America and its citizens at all times. In Louisiana, we believe that is something to be proud of!

On Inauguration Day, Landry, a fervent Trump supporter, urged Louisianans to fly MAGA flags. In honor of the 14 people killed in the New Orleans terror assault in the New Year, Landry had already ordered the flags on state buildings to be lowered to half-staff.

Landry had originally set aside a time of mourning for British citizen Edward Pettifer, the stepson of Prince William’s former nanny, to coincide with Trump’s inauguration. Instead, on January 24, state flags will be lowered in Pettifer’s honor, a Landry official told reporters.

Before the death of former President Jimmy Carter last month, flags at the Capitol were lowered for 30 days. However, earlier this week, US House Speaker Mike Johnson ordered flags to be hoisted to full height on Inauguration Day. The next day, Johnson said, the flags will be lowered once more.

Governors from other states, including Texas, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Iowa, California, and North Dakota, also declared that their states will fly American flags during the inauguration.

In force until January 28, during Trump’s first week in office, President Joe Biden’s order on December 29 to lower flags is applicable to government buildings, US embassies, and facilities overseas.

On Inauguration Day, flags were flying at half-staff, which has angered Trump. The idea that flags would be lowered on Inauguration Day has Democrats “giddy,” he wrote in a social media post on January 3. No one wants to witness this. No American can take pride in it.
