Brazil declares that Nigeria has been accepted as a BRICS partner nation
Nigeria was accepted as a partner nation in the transnational group of countries known as BRICS, the Brazilian government said on Friday.
According to a statement from Brazil, which will lead the bloc in 2025, the African nation has been actively “strengthening cooperation in the Global South and reforming global governance,” which is a top goal for Brazil.
In the announcement, Brazil’s Foreign Ministry, also known as Itamaraty, stated that Nigeria, “has converging interests with the other members of the group, as it has the sixth largest population in the world and the first on the African continent, as well as one of the largest economies in Africa.”
Nigeria joins the BRICS, which currently consists of eight countries, mostly from Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America.
