FIFA Club World Cup expansion will benefit African clubs

The FIFA Club World Cup 2025, FIFA’s next premier club tournament, will make its debut in the United States in June and July of 2025, bringing 32 of the world’s top teams together.

Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, Espérance de Tunis of Tunisia, Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, and Al Ahly of Egypt are the four African teams competing.

The first game of the 32-team competition will pit Al Ahly against Messi’s Inter Miami.

$50 million (RWF 70 billion) will be given to each of the 32 teams who are competing, and the amount will rise as the teams advance in the competition.

If Rwandan clubs make it to the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup finals, the initiative will benefit them.

If teams like APR and Rayon Sports perform well in the CAF Champions League and/or Confederation Cup in the continent, they will be eligible to play in the next edition.

The first match between South Korea’s Ulsan HD and African powerhouse Mamelodi Sundowns in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, which will take place in the United States from June 14 to July 13, is precisely five months away, on Friday, January 17.

Al Ahly, Esperance de Tunis, and Wydad Casablanca will join Masandawana, as they are usually called, in the tournament, which currently includes 32 clubs.

Goalie Denis Onyango of Mamelodi Sundowns stated:

Since every team in the team World Cup is a league champion and the majority of them have participated several times, it will be a very challenging group for us. We wish to advance beyond the group phases.
