Days before, the NHL player lost his valuable possessions when burglars stole into his house and fled without setting off any alarms. The startling incident occurs more than a week after the FBI issued a warning to professional athletes.

According to the FBI, these crimes were committed by organized crime groups who preyed on the residences of celebrities. To date, these law-eluding criminals have robbed the houses of celebrities like Luka Doncic, Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, and others.

Malkin’s Pittsburgh Penguins club was playing the Ottawa Senators at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh on January 11 when the regrettable occurrence happened. Although the robbers’ method of entry into the athlete’s house was unknown, it’s possible that they tampered with his security system.

Reports state that during the break-in, Malkin’s home security system was not operational. Three of the NHL player’s Stanley Cup rings were successfully taken by the burglars, who had no working alarms to notify the police of the break-in.

However, they cautioned celebrities to be caution because the criminals had little trouble coming up with their plan in front of the homes.

Because it is believed that these residences may contain expensive items including jewelry, watches, designer handbags, and cash, they are frequently the target of burglaries. Some burglaries happen when occupants are home, but most burglaries happen when residences are empty, according to FBI authorities.

The federal government urged athletes to seek assistance from law enforcement instead of confronting burglars directly. They pointed out that these criminals might be armed and could become aggressive if provoked. Authorities thought the robbers were from South American criminal organizations.

According to reports, these gangs employed “preparation tactics” to enter and exit residences carrying stolen goods before being apprehended. “Organized theft groups bypass alarm systems, use Wi-Fi jammers to block Wi-Fi connections and disable devices, cover security cameras, and obfuscate their identities,” according to federal authorities.

In light of this, they suggested that athletes strengthen their home security systems and avoid posting their location on social media when they were away from home. Stars like Tyler Seguin, Bobby Portis Jr., and Joe Burrow were on the 2024 victim list.
