The president of Ivory Coast indicates that he wants to run for a fourth term
Alassane Ouattara, president of Ivory Coast, stated on Thursday that he would like to remain president of his nation, but he made it clear that his party has not yet formally chosen a candidate for this year’s election.
In 2020, Ouattara, at eighty-three, was re-elected for a contentious third term. Prior to stepping down, he expressed his desire to do so, but he also implied that he would require his former opponents to similarly commit to leaving politics.
Addressing the diplomatic corps in Abidjan, he stated, “I am in good health and eager to continue serving my country,” which is the clearest indication yet that he intends to run for office again.
Although Ouattara has not yet been officially nominated or accepted, the ruling party stated in September that it supports a possible Ouattara candidacy in the October 2025 election.
