A Virginia nurse was arrested for allegedly breaking newborns’ bones in the intensive care unit

Erin Elizabeth Ann Strotman Charged as part of a police investigation into a series of fractures in neonatal intensive care unit babies

Erin Elizabeth Ann Strotman, a 26-year-old registered nurse, has been apprehended by the Henrico County police in relation to a series of enigmatic injuries sustained by infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.

Strotman was apprehended early Friday on suspicion of child maltreatment resulting in severe injury and malicious wounding. Detectives are currently investigating at least six similar cases of suspicious fractures in NICU infants that occurred between the summer of 2023 and December 2024. While the police have linked her arrest to a single incident on November 10, the investigation is ongoing.

Dominique Hackey, the father of one victim, expressed his sorrow upon learning of Strotman’s arrest. In September 2023, his twin son sustained a curious tibia fracture, which was subsequently identified as the result of abuse.

Hackey stated to Fox News Digital, “We can finally obtain some answers regarding the perpetrator of our son’s abuse.” “However, upon discovering the specifics concerning the other infants, my sole emotion is one of regret and sorrow.”

Hackey, whose wife is a former NICU nurse, promptly reported the injury to social services. However, it was not until a year later that the authorities verified that the injury was caused by a hospital employee.

In November, Henrico Doctors’ Hospital initiated an internal investigation following the discovery of three additional neonates with unexplained fractures. The hospital temporarily closed its NICU to new patients on Christmas Eve due to safety concerns.

The hospital implemented supplementary security measures, such as surveillance systems, and provided investigators with a substantial amount of footage.

Eric English, the Chief of Police of Henrico, expressed his gratitude to the detectives for their unwavering dedication, recognizing that the investigation encompasses hundreds of hours of surveillance footage.

In a statement, the authorities verified that all cases that were previously closed in connection with these incidents have been reopened. Families have been assured that each lead will be thoroughly investigated, and authorities are currently in the process of compiling evidence.

Police continue to encourage individuals who possess information to disclose it.
