Luca Doncic, a Mavs standout, will be out for at least a month due to a calf injury

ESPN announced late Thursday night that Luka Doncic, a standout for the Dallas Mavericks, will be reassessed in a month because of a left calf strain.

During Wednesday’s 105-99 loss to the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves, the five-time All-Star suffered the injury. Doncic went to the locker room and missed the whole second half after he appeared to have strained his calf on a fairly innocuous play in the second quarter.

On Thursday, Doncic had an MRI and received advice from a number of people.

The Slovenian native, 25, finished the game with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists in 16 minutes. Doncic need crutches to leave the arena, according to ESPN.

The Mavericks will play their first game of a four-game road trip on Friday against the Phoenix Suns. The Mavs will then play the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday to finish a back-to-back before playing the Sacramento Kings on Monday night to close the season.

Doncic would need to play at least 43 more games this season—he has already played 22—to be eligible for MVP or other league awards. Doncic wouldn’t reach 65 if he couldn’t get back in less than a month.

This season, he is averaging 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists. His field goal percentage is 46.4 percent, and his long-range percentage is 35.4 percent.

Doncic missed five games in a row in late November and two games in a row last week due to injuries that have troubled him all season. In total, he has missed eight games due to injury.

Dallas lost Wednesday, dropping to 19-11.
