M. Gaston Gimenez agrees to end the deal with Fire
On Tuesday, the Chicago Fire and midfielder Gaston Gimenez, who has been a member of the team for the last five years, agreed to end his contract.
After playing for over ten years in his home country of Argentina, Gimenez, 33, became a designated player for the Fire in 2020.
He made 29 appearances (18 starts) for Chicago last season, with one goal and three assists. Gimenez has four goals and eleven assists in 125 games with the team (104 starts).
Gregg Berhalter, the former coach of the U.S. men’s national team, was hired as the Fire’s head coach and director of football, bringing them under new leadership.
“We wish Gaston and his family well for the future and thank him for his contributions to the Fire,” Berhalter said in a statement. “This move was made to allow Gaston to pursue a new challenge while providing the club with greater roster flexibility as we look to strengthen the squad for the 2025 season.”
Gimenez is of Paraguayan heritage, and in 2020, he changed his athletic nationality from Argentina to Paraguay.
