A Florida woman was charged after allegedly using a phrase connected to CEO murder to threaten an insurance company
After using a term connected to a recent high-profile murder, a Florida woman’s phone contact ends with a $100,000 bond.
Serious charges have been brought against a 42-year-old Lakeland, Florida woman who reportedly made a threatening comment over the phone with BlueCross BlueShield, her insurance company. Because of its association with a recent high-profile homicide, the remark she used has garnered global attention.
An arrest affidavit states that on Tuesday, December 10, the FBI contacted the Lakeland Police Department regarding a potential threat. Briana Boston was challenging disallowed medical claims during the aforementioned call.
According to authorities, Boston said, “Delay, Deny, Depose,” near the end of the call. You folks are up next. Since it was discovered scrawled on the ammunition used to kill UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City just one week prior, the phrase “Delay, Deny, Depose” has become well-known.
“She’s been in this world long enough to know you can’t make threats like that in today’s climate without consequences,” said Police Chief Sam Taylor, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.
When investigators went to Boston’s Lakeland home, she acknowledged uttering the remark but insisted she didn’t mean any harm. “Healthcare companies play games and deserve karma from the world because they are evil,” she allegedly told cops.
Although Boston acknowledged that she learned the term from news reports about the UnitedHealthcare murder, she maintained that she was not a threat because she does not possess a firearm.
Authorities claimed that Boston’s remarks incited fear and took advantage of the recent tragedy, and they charged her with threatening to carry out a mass shooting or an act of terrorism.
Given the sensitive situation in the United States right now, the judge placed Boston’s bond at $100,000.
