Bellingham and Real sweep the FIFPRO awards, and Messi is left out

This year’s FIFPRO World 11 was revealed by the worldwide players’ association on Monday, and it includes six players from Real Madrid, the Champions League winners, and four from Manchester City. Lionel Messi is missing for the first time in nearly two decades.

For the first time since 2006, Messi will not be included in the 2024 FIFPRO World 11. Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, and Vinicius Jr. took the position of the Argentinean, who has the most picks (17 in all), in the front row.

Jude Bellingham, a midfielder for Real Madrid and England, received 11,176 selections from his peers, making him the most popular choice among the men.

The only player outside of Real and City to be named in the men’s team of the year was Virgil van Dijk, a defender with Liverpool.

With five selections—Lucy Bronze, Mary Earps, Alex Greenwood, Lauren James, and Keira Walsh—English athletes topped the 2024 Women’s World 11.

She and Wendie Renard were tied for the women’s appearance record after Bronze’s eighth selection. The first African player to compete in the Women’s World 11 was Barbra Banda of Zambia.
