Dr. Dre Wins A Minor Win Against Former Psychiatrist In $10 Million Battle
In his legal fight against his former marriage counselor, Dr. Dre comes out on top.
A therapist named Dr. Charles Sophy sued the record producer for $10 million because he said the producer sent him frightening text messages. The music mogul had the last laugh, even though he got a protection order in October.
Recently, there was a hearing for a permanent restraining order. The judge agreed with Dr. Dre and turned down the therapist’s request. Why? Because he didn’t show how the musician’s acts put his safety at risk.
Dr. Dre Gets Out of Restraining Order Trouble With Ex-Therapist
Sophy showed up in person at a Los Angeles courthouse on November 5 to fight for a lifelong restraining order. At the same time, Dr. Dre attended online through Zoom.
The doctor said that he would not be safe without the protection order because Dr. Dre knew about him and his bad behavior in the past. The rapper’s threats were “consistent with the text messages” he got from Dr. Dre, he said.
Sophy also talked about Dre’s racist claims. He said that since Dre is a child therapist and runs a welfare program for kids of all colors, he couldn’t be racist. The judge did not change his mind, which was a shame.
The judge decided that Dr. Dre’s texts were not a big enough problem to warrant a lasting protection order. TMZ reports that Sophy’s temporary protection order was lifted.
‘Credible Threat Of Future Violence’ was not made by Dr. Dre.
Before the meeting, Dr. Dre answered Sophy’s lawsuit and admitted that he was wrong. According to The Blast, he admitted to writing mean texts but said he had never made “credible threats of violence” that would have led to a restraining order.
“What a little b-tch you are” was written on one message from an unknown number. But Dr. Dre made it clear that he didn’t send this text because he didn’t need to use a different number when he could use his regular device to show his anger.
He used the same reason to disprove claims that he sent mean texts to Sophy from a fake phone. Dr. Dre also said he had nothing to do with the fake FBI agents who were said to have tried to scare his former therapist.
More harsh language, like “You’re a piece of sh-t,” was used by the co-founder of Death Row Records. These words were blunt statements of anger, not threats. He also made it sound like Sophy’s supposed fear was caused by deep-seated racism.
The founder of Beats Electronics said Dr. Sophy was racist.
Dr. Dre said that Sophy’s claim of “emotional distress” was just a way to hide damaging stereotypes. He said that his ex-therapist was “invoking the racist stereotype that Black men, like [Dre], are naturally violent.”
The producer of the record also said that Sophy’s lawsuit connected him to other problems, like the current accusations against Diddy. The therapist said that Dre’s friends were acting “violently” and that there were fights about how to keep his dogs safe from his anger.
As was already said, Sophy got a temporary protection order against Dre in October. The artist had to stay 100 yards away from the doctor and his 22-year-old son, according to the judge. He was also told he couldn’t talk to them.
What happened between the record producer and the therapist he used to see?
The Blast claimed that Dr. Dre’s legal letter to the therapist from 2023 had been found after Sophy’s $10 million lawsuit against him. Howard King, his lawyer, slammed the doctor for breaking his duty of trust and doing bad work.
The acts that Sophy is accused of happened while he was helping Dr. Dre and his ex-wife Nicole work out their divorce. In the letter, it was said that the therapist used his position to help the entertainer’s ex-lover in their divorce case.
It was said that Sophy “slandered” Dre “in a malicious effort to convince his son to turn against him.” In his answer to the therapist’s lawsuit, he said the same thing through his lawyer:
“Dr. Sophy filed his suit only after he failed to pressure Mr. Young into dropping efforts to get Dr. Sophy punished for dereliction of duties and incredible incompetence.”
Dr. Dre put in a complaint to have Dr. Sophy’s license taken away.
Dr. Dre’s lawyer said that in 2023, he complained about Sophy to the Osteopathic Medical Board of California. “That complaint seeks revocation of Dr. Sophy’s license to provide mental health counseling to needy patients,” his lawyer said.
It was never said which son Sophy reportedly turned against Dr. Dre, but the music mogul had five sons and five daughters with different women. With his ex-wife Nicole, he had two boys, Tyler and Truice, and a daughter, Truly.
Dr. Dre got a small win when the restraining order was thrown out, but he still has to deal with the $10 million claim from his former therapist. Will the record maker win another case in court?
