LA’s mayor says it’s “time to get busy” as plans for the 2028 Olympics get under way

The city of Los Angeles is getting ready to host the 2028 Olympics. This week, officials from Paris came to find out what the “secret sauce” is for a good Games, according to LA Mayor Karen Bass.

A lot of people thought that the planning and execution of the Paris Games were great. They also set a high standard for LA when it lights the Olympic flame in Southern California in four years.

The second day of talks with French officials began on Thursday at City Hall. Bass said, “What we want to do is break down what we saw.”

“What I liked best was that the whole city paid attention.” “What’s that special sauce?”

As the summer went on, Bass got a close look at the Paris Games by visiting sites and meeting with officials in the French capital. In August, he received the Olympic flag at a historic closing ceremony at Stade de France.
Her words were, “It was an amazing experience.”

“Now it’s time to get busy.”

Bass is very clear about the problems that LA will have to deal with. LA is known for both its huge palm trees and its terrible traffic.

“One thing that’s drastically different with LA versus Paris is the size and the density,” she noted.

“Paris is a smaller area of land.” One of our strengths is our sprawl, but it’s also one of our problems. How do you get the whole city excited about the Olympics?”

She also said that LA needs to clean up.

“The city’s dirty, graffiti everywhere, we’ve got to deal with the homeless issue, all of those issues,” she added.

“You also can’t do every street in the city.” What do you think is most important?”

She also said that making sure that poorer parts of the country’s second-largest city by population are not left out and that local businesses gain from the Games are very important.

And Los Angeles is going to see more big sports events than just the Olympics.

The city will hold soccer games in the World Cup, the NBA All-Star game, and the U.S. Women’s Open in golf in 2026. The Super Bowl will return to Los Angeles the following year.

“I’m viewing each of these activities as practice, preparing for the big one,” she stated.

When asked if she was sure LA would be able to host a good Games, she said, “I am quite sure.”

“Not cocky, but confident.”
