Israeli forces are investigating if they murdered Hamas leader Sinwar
The Israeli military stated Thursday that it is looking into the likelihood that it killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, who was one of the masterminds of the deadly attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which led to the war in Gaza.
The military stated that his identity could not be verified at this time.
In delivering severe blows to its bitter enemies, Israel has murdered a number of Hamas commanders in Gaza and prominent members of Hezbollah in Lebanon, including its seasoned leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Sinwar was recently promoted to chief head of the Palestinian militant group, although Hamas has not commented on his destiny.
As Israel prepares its reaction to Iran’s Oct. 1 missile attack following Israeli airstrikes on Iranian-allied militants, if his death is verified, it will escalate tensions in the Middle East, where concerns of a wider battle have grown.
Israel was cautioned against bombing the Islamic Republic of Iran early Thursday by the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.
“We tell you (Israel) that if you commit any aggression against any point we will painfully attack the same point of yours,” Hossein Salami stated in a speech that was broadcast on television. He also added that Iran is able to breach Israel’s defenses.
There have been rumors that Israel would target Iran’s nuclear installations, as it has often threatened to do, and that it might also hit its strategic oil locations.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo while on a Middle East tour. According to the Egyptian presidency, Sisi reiterated Egypt’s demand that the situation not be allowed to escalate.
