The Dutch coach has expressed his confidence in De Ligt for the upcoming match against Germany

The Netherlands’ Matthijs de Ligt, a defender, will have the opportunity to play in the Nations League match against Germany in Amsterdam on Tuesday, despite an error that resulted in a goal at the weekend.

In Saturday’s inaugural Nations League A Group 3 match against Bosnia in Eindhoven, De Ligt was caught on the wrong side of the ball, which allowed 38-year-old veteran Edin Dzeko to score. Despite this, the Dutch secured a 5-2 victory.

The error reintroduced the new Manchester United canter to the limelight in his country. However, Dutch coach Ronald Koeman expressed his confidence in De Ligt on Monday, attempting to quell the persistent speculation regarding his position in the team.

Koeman stated at a press conference prior to the Germany match at the Johan Cruyff Arena, “We have deliberated on it.”

“He failed to execute his footwork correctly.” For a defender, it was a poor individual moment. There is a distinct need to improve these types of moments; therefore, you must learn from them. However, it is important to avoid being overly dramatic and to not place an excessive amount of emphasis on the matter.

Koeman also verified that De Ligt would be playing against Germany, despite his previous assurances that he would make other lineup adjustments.

De Ligt’s inaugural competitive international match in a year occurred against Bosnia. He was on the sideline during the European Championship in Germany this year, but he did not receive any playing time.

At the age of 25, De Ligt has already accomplished a great deal, if not yet developed into the world-class defender he appeared to be when he made his breakthrough as an adolescent, with 46 caps.

DEBUT OF NIGHTMARE

De Ligt’s début in a critical World Cup qualifier against Bulgaria, which resulted in a loss for the Dutch and a significant penalty for their failure to qualify for the 2018 Russia finals, was a nightmare. He was only 17 years old at the time.

De Ligt’s red card for a clumsy handball against the Czech Republic in 2021 resulted in a last-16 exit from the Euros. Consequently, it was unsurprising that Saturday’s error was promptly capitalized on.

“I didn’t feel like I was quite able to get my steps right and I heard something, which made me think the goalie (Bart Verbruggen) was coming, but I don’t want to put the blame on him at all,” according to De Ligt. “I’m doing my best, but I know it can be better.”

Koeman expressed his optimism on Monday that the transfer to Old Trafford would provide De Ligt with an abundance of opportunities, as he only appeared in half of Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga matches last season.

“I also discussed my transfer to United with Koeman.” In an interview with Dutch television station NOS over the weekend, De Ligt expressed his satisfaction with the outcome.

“Although it may seem absurd, it is also to maintain a greater presence in the public eye.” However, it is evident that the Premier League is more widely viewed than the Bundesliga.
