Fuel truck explosion in Nigeria claims at least 48 lives

In north-central Nigeria, a petroleum tanker truck explosion that occurred after colliding with another vehicle resulted in the deaths of at least 48 individuals on Sunday, according to the state’s disaster management agency.

A fuel vehicle collided with a truck transporting cattle and travelers, according to the State Emergency Management Agency in north-central Niger state. Other vehicles were also involved in the collision, according to the report.

According to the agency’s spokesperson, Hussaini Ibrahim, the fatality toll was 48, and officials were still in the process of clearing the incident site.

Last week, Nigeria’s state-owned company, NNPC Ltd, increased the price of gasoline by at least 39%. This is the second significant increase in over a year, but shortages have persisted, resulting in motorists being forced to queue for hours in the country’s significant cities and villages.
