Olympics: Favour Ofili suffers heartbreak and places fourth in the 200-meter final
Favour Ofili painfully finished fourth at the Paris 2024 Olympics, missing out on a 200m medal.
Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili came in barely four hundredths of a second behind American Britanny Brown for third place in the 200-meter final at the Paris 2024 Olympics, missing out on a medal.
Gabrielle Thomas of the United States won the event with an incredible time of 21.83 seconds. In 22.08 seconds, Saint Lucian’s Julien Alfred won the silver medal.
Brown, Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita of Great Britain, and Ofili of Nigeria were separated in the bronze medal race by a mere four tenths of a second. Ofili would have became Nigeria’s first 200-meter medallist since Mary Onyali in 1996 if she had placed on the podium.
Ofili, 21, made history by being Nigeria’s first 200-meter event finalist in 28 years, even though she did not win a medal. This was a major accomplishment for her athletic career.
