Regarding the 2024 Grammy Arrest, Killer Mike won’t Be Charged

After being taken into custody on Sunday, February 4, the rapper released a statement saying, “I have the utmost confidence that I will ultimately be cleared of all wrongdoing.”

Following his arrest following the 2024 Grammy Awards, Killer Mike will not be prosecuted.

The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office said on Wednesday, June 26, that it will not be filing criminal charges against the 49-year-old rapper, whose real name is Michael Render.

A statement from the L.A. City Attorney’s Office stated, “Mr. Render has successfully completed the Office’s Hearing process, including a community service requirement that was imposed,” to PEOPLE.

After winning best rap song and best rap performance for “Scientist & Engineers” and best rap album for Michael during the show’s pre-telecast event on Sunday, February 4, Killer Mike was led out of the awards ceremony in handcuffs.

The hip-hop artist from Atlanta was seen being taken into custody by law enforcement in a video that was posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) and recorded by journalist Chris Gardner of The Hollywood Reporter. According to TMZ, there was “an alleged physical confrontation” before to the event. Additionally, Gardner revealed that a law enforcement officer stated that Killer Mike might be “released later from the arena.”

In the video, someone could be heard yelling “Free Mike” as they were exiting the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. It was unknown at the time if Killer Mike had been charged or booked.

At the time of the event, PEOPLE had contacted the rapper’s representative for a response.

While unable to confirm the musician’s identity, a Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman informed PEOPLE that a male was taken into custody just after 4 p.m. for his role in a physical confrontation.

“At this time the individual is being questioned by the police and the investigation is ongoing,” they stated.

On X, the LAPD did, however, confirm that an adult male who “was detained & handcuffed for a physical altercation that occurred at the 700 block of Chick Hearn Court” had been apprehended and taken to LAPD Central Division that evening.

The “Run” musician gave PEOPLE a statement on Tuesday, February 6, citing “confusion around which door my team and I should enter.”

“We experienced an over-zealous security guard but my team and I have the upmost confidence that I will ultimately be cleared of all wrongdoing,” stated Killer Mike. “Until that time, keep listening to Michael, and keep going after your dreams.”

“A number of calls from concerned fans and colleagues wanting to know if I was OK,” he continued, mentioning that his team had received.

“I greatly appreciate the concern and support, but I am better than OK,” stated Killer Mike.

“The day after my Grammy win – I learned that my son, who has been on the list for a kidney for years, finally has a match,” the music great revealed after receiving additional good news. We are obviously overjoyed.”
