Simba said goodbye to the late great striker John Bocco

John Bocco, one of Tanzania’s most productive attackers, was formally said to be leaving by Tanzania Premier League powerhouse Simba SC.

Renowned for his incredible goal-scoring ability, the experienced striker has been a major contributor to the team’s recent victories and is a fan favorite among Tanzanian football fans.

The time Bocco has spent with Simba has been nothing short of remarkable. He became a key member of Simba’s striking force in the 2017–18 season after signing from Azam FC, setting records and amassing over 100 league goals.

His goal-scoring prowess has solidified his place as the greatest native striker in league history, a distinction that will endure for years to come.

Bocco’s adventure with Simba has been adorned with multiple honors. Simba won the Premier League three times in a row under his direction. He was a role model for both his teammates and younger players because of his discipline and impeccable conduct, which complemented his on-field skills.

Simba acknowledged and thanked Bocco’s contributions in an official statement, saying, “Our captain and star striker John Bocco will not be part of the squad. We appreciate all of his hard work and commitment to the club.

Among Bocco’s career high points was his 2020–2021 Golden Boot victory. Despite suffering an injury that kept him out of most of the first round matches, he had an incredible recovery in the second round, scoring two goals each game to conclude the season with 16 goals.

His outstanding performance gave him the advantage over competitors like Chris Mugalu (15 goals), Prince Dube of Azam FC (14 goals), and Meddie Kagere (13 goals). With his highest total of 19 goals in the 2021–2022 season, Bocco ranks sixth all-time in the Tanzanian Premier League Golden Boot record.
