Kenya Police and AFC Leopards battle for a spot in the championship game
AFC Leopards and Kenya Police will play in the Mozzart Bet Cup semi-finals at Police Sacco Stadium on Sunday. The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League will be taking a break to accommodate the FIFA international break.
At the same location, Kariobangi Sharks and KCB will square off in the other semifinal match. In two weeks, Ingwe and the police will square off; the last league encounter concluded with a 1-0 victory for Ingwe at the newly constructed Dandora Stadium on May 15.
As a result of the game, Ingwe ended Police’s 20-game winning streak across all competitions under head coach Salim Babu. Additionally, it dashed their tiny chances of taking home their first league championship, as Gor Mahia, the defending champions, emerged victorious with an unbeatable 67 points.
While Ingwe easily defeated division one underdogs Compel FC 3-1 to qualify, Police crushed fellow Premier League team Sofapaka 4-0 to advance to the round of four.
As they attempt to win their first major championship, attention will be on Ingwe striker Arthur Gitego, who leads the Cup scorers’ chart with five goals. Tito Okello, who has three goals, will lead the law enforcement team.
When the Sharks play the Bankers, they hope to participate in another final. John Mark Makwatta, a free-scoring striker, will be the mainstay of the Sharks under coach William Muluya, while Derrick Otanga will captain the Bankers.
