Ruto adds, “hiyo ni upuzi na ujinga,” after accusing political figures of bringing back tribalism

During the 2024 Labor Day celebrations, President William Ruto’s purple kaunda suit also became a topic of discussion for the speakers, who interpreted it symbolically.

The phrase “Kenya’s worker number one” was used frequently by speakers as they spoke to President William Ruto on Wednesday at Nairobi’s Uhuru Gardens.

The President’s attire decisions were mentioned in official remarks given at the national function, which coincided with the nation’s participation in the international Labor Day celebrations.

Keynote speakers included Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, CEO of the Federation of Kenya Employers Jaqueline Mugo, and COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli all mentioned Ruto’s purple kaunda suit, describing it as a demonstration of support for Kenyan workers.

While the world uses colors like red, white, green, and black to celebrate Labor Day, in Kenya, purple has come to represent May Day thanks to the work of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU-K), led by Atwoli.
