Judge Luke Bryan of “American Idol” is brutally honest about Katy Perry’s departure

Fans of the popular competition series were shocked to learn that Katy Perry, who had judged the show for seven seasons, was leaving American Idol. One individual was not taken aback by Katy’s revelation, despite the fact that the audience found it hard to believe: one of the other judges.

Luke Bryan shared his opinions with Taste of Country during an interview that was released on April 6 regarding Katy Perry’s upcoming departure from American Idol. He acknowledged that he and Lionel Richie would miss Katy’s presence on the judges’ panel, but he also said that the news didn’t catch him off guard.

He told the newspaper, “It wasn’t like a huge shock—I had heard whispers that she was thinking about it.” “I think she kinda just got caught up in the moment with [Jimmy Kimmel] and maybe announced that she was done.”

As viewers may recall, Katy broke the news that she was departing American Idol during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! prior to the launch of the seventh season (out of a total of 22 seasons) of the show. She said at the time that her co-stars, including host Ryan Seacrest, were unaware of this information at the time, which is consistent with Luke’s comments of learning of her departure.

Luke acknowledged that the relationship between the two goes beyond American Idol, even though Katy would be leaving when the season ends.

“It’s been a good run with Katy, and she and I have developed a great friendship and to work alongside her, I mean, heck, I was there before her daughter was born, and now her daughter is three or four years old,” he said. “She knows that no matter what her next endeavors are, that she can pick up the phone and call me and check in and say hey.”

It’s encouraging to see that their connection will endure even after Katy departs from American Idol, even if it’s still unclear who will take her position as the next judge. For the remainder of the season, we’ll have to watch to see how her and Luke’s chemistry develop because she’s still on American Idol!
