“Run, run, run!” Six people were fatally stabbed at a Sydney mall, and the suspect was fatally shot

Sydney: At a crowded Sydney shopping mall on Saturday, a man fatally shot himself after stabbing six people, according to police. Hundreds of people fled the chaotic scene, many of them crying as they carried their children. Nine months old among the eight injured parties.

According to New South Wales Assistant Police Commissioner Anthony Cooke, the 40-year-old was stopped in the knife assault at the Westfield Shopping Centre in Bondi Junction, which is in the eastern suburbs of the city, when he turned and produced a knife, prompting a police inspector to shoot him.

“They simply said, ‘Run, run, run—someone has been stabbed,'” an Australian witness told ABC TV. “The assailant walked with such composure, as if he were enjoying an ice cream cone in a park.” After he ascended the escalators, we heard three gunshots in the next minute or so.

Together with the suspect, six victims—five women and one man—passed away. Hospitals were treating the eight injured, according to Commissioner Karen Webb. She claimed that although the infant was in surgery, it was too soon to determine its condition.

In a subsequent briefing, Webb stated, “We are confident that there is no ongoing risk, and we are dealing with one person who is now deceased.” “It’s not a terrorism incident,” she continued.

She stated that investigators were still trying to find the man’s motivation and would not be identifying him just yet.

A “lengthy and precise” probe, according to Cooke, was just getting started.
