FIFA has announced that President Infantino will pursue re-election in March 2027

FIFA president Gianni Infantino is determined to pursue re-election despite facing renewed opposition to his candidacy following a failed attempt to sell a stake in FIFA competitions to private investors, a spokesperson for the global soccer organization stated on Sunday.

Infantino, who had previously announced his intention to pursue a fourth term in March next year, has encountered demands for his resignation from UEFA, the AFC, and CONCACAF. This follows the abandonment of his plan to sell a 20% stake in the World Cup and other FIFA events, which faced significant backlash in July.


However, the 56-year-old continues to enjoy backing from the African and South American confederations.

The FIFA president declared in April his intention to run for re-election in 2027. Certainly, nothing has changed. A FIFA spokesperson stated that Mr. Infantino will be standing for re-election.

The statement followed Infantino's silence when questioned about any regrets regarding the tumultuous past six weeks during his attendance at the U-20 World Cup in Poland on Saturday. "There will be a lot to say, but there will be a right place and a right time to say this," Infantino remarked.

No one has officially declared their intention to run against Infantino in the upcoming election next year.
