No player had ever pulled down 500 rebounds in a single WNBA season until Saturday night, when Angel Reese got there — and did it against Chicago, the franchise that shipped her out over the offseason. The Atlanta Dream forward crossed the line before halftime in a 106 to 81 rout of the Sky.
Reese arrived at the arena sitting on 495 for the year. Two quarters were all she needed to find the five that were missing. She closed out the night with 23 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocks, and Atlanta finished off a 3 and 0 sweep of her former club.
The 500 milestone stretches a mark Reese had claimed weeks earlier. Back on August 24 she hauled in 26 rebounds in a 78 to 71 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks — more than any player has managed in one WNBA game. That night wiped out a single-game record Chamique Holdsclaw had held for over 23 years, and it pushed Reese past A'ja Wilson's season record of 451.
“Anything that goes up is mine,” Reese said after that Sparks game in August.
This is not her first run at the season mark. As a Chicago rookie in 2024 she cleared Sylvia Fowles' old total of 404 and wound up with 446 — then watched Wilson finish on 451 and take the record off her. Two seasons on, she has taken it back, and she has not stopped adding to it.
Rebounding is only one line on a 2026 résumé stacked with records. Reese hit 900 career boards in May, needing just 71 games to get there — quicker than anyone in league history. On August 30 she notched her 29th game of the season with double figures in both points and rebounds, a WNBA record, in a win over the Minnesota Lynx. She went into Saturday averaging a career-best 16.5 points and a league-leading 12.4 rebounds a night.
The effect is visible in the team's numbers as well. With Reese on the court the Dream outscore opponents by 10.2 points per 100 possessions; without her, the margin flattens to roughly nothing. Atlanta now sits at 28 and 14, winners of 14 of their past 18, holding the fourth seed with two regular-season games to play, both against the New York Liberty.
Chicago, meanwhile, dropped to 15 and 27 with a fifth consecutive defeat.
