Years after publicly battling chronic pain, health issues, and a demanding profession, the superstar began trying to have a child in 2024.
The long-awaited motherhood of Lady Gaga was a personal path that strained her physically and emotionally before concluding with the family she wanted.
Since 2024, Gaga, 40, and fiancé Michael Polansky had been trying to have a child. While health issues hampered Lady Gaga's pregnancy, friends said she had wanted kids for years.
One source told Page Six, “Stefani’s had a difficult time physically,” referring to Gaga as Stefani Germanotta. The source said, “There have been moments of giddiness,” then “and moments of despair. It was sad.”
According to the source, “It’s a real tale of difficult times, both physical and emotional, en route to this happy ending.”
Gaga has publicly discussed her medical background for over a decade. In 2013, she had hip surgery after an accident forced her to stop performing, the outlet reported. Gaga told Andy Cohen, “I had a tear on the inside of my joint and a giant breakage.”
“The surgeon said I might need a full hip replacement if I did another show. "I would have been out for a year or longer," she remarked.
The source told the newspaper that Gaga's past issues persisted once she became a mother. “She’s had severe hip issues and a heap of other physical ailments, alongside everything she puts her body through when performing,” the insider claimed.
Later, Gaga stated she has fibromyalgia, which causes widespread discomfort and exhaustion. Her persistent suffering was depicted in the 2017 Netflix documentary “Gaga: Five Foot Two.” "When I feel the adrenaline of my music and my fans, I can [expletive] go," she remarked about performing to get through tough times. But I'm still hurting.”
In addition to physical pain, she has suffered emotional agony. During the Apple TV Plus series “The Me You Can’t See,” Gaga recounted her 19th-year music producer sexual assault and its enduring effects. Her 2019 “total psychotic break” was also described.
“For a couple years, I was not the same girl,” Gaga stated. “I felt pain like I did after being raped. So many MRIs and scans have found nothing. Your body remembers.” Gaga has spoken trauma, PTSD, chronic pain, and fibromyalgia while campaigning for more compassion for those with invisible ailments, according to Vogue.
After those tough times, Gaga's relationship with Polansky stabilized. She told Vogue in 2024 that their relationship deepened after spending time together during the pandemic. Vogue reported that Polansky proposed in April 2024 after rock climbing. The couple announced their engagement that year.
By 2025, Gaga publicly discussed her post-stage life. On “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in October, she remarked, “What I really want is to be a mom. I hope that's my next lead.”
Later that year, she told Rolling Stone that parenthood was her greatest desire and that Polansky would be a loving father. Polansky also revealed their ambitions for motherhood, stating that the pair now wanted children.
The Lady Gaga baby announcement arrived in September 2026. Page Six showed the couple with a newborn in Northern California. Neither media disclosed the child's name, sex, or birth date, and Gaga keeps them confidential.
Gaga's entrance fulfills a goal she discussed before the world realized how difficult the journey had become. After years of juggling work pressures, physical discomfort, mental health issues, and family hopes, parenting is now her dream position.
