Following a tumultuous week of public interactions featuring Remy Ma, Papoose, and Claressa Shields, both artists are introducing new music into the mix, prompting fans to analyze every title and lyric with keen interest.

On Friday, Remy hinted at her forthcoming single “Why I Get Married,” which features the incredible vocalist Keke Wyatt. The title alone instantly caught attention, especially since Remy is still legally married to Papoose as they navigate their divorce proceedings.

The Brooklyn rapper released a new track called “Jezebel,” and although he doesn’t explicitly mention Remy in the lyrics circulating online, a specific line has led many to believe that his estranged wife is the focus of the song.

“When you were locked up, I brought you food and sent you mail,” Papoose raps.

He also mentions in the track that he continues to send money via Zelle, adding another intimate detail to a song that listeners are already relating to the woman he supported during her time in prison.

That prison reference is difficult to overlook.

Remy spent over six years in prison before his release in 2014. Papoose gained significant recognition for his unwavering support during that time, and Remy has previously shared how frequently he visited her while she was in prison. Their relationship evolved into one of hip hop’s most celebrated marriages, featuring a televised wedding ceremony in 2016 and the arrival of their daughter, Reminisce Mackenzie, in 2018.

Now, that history seems to be offering content for a distinctly different kind of record.

Neither artist has officially stated that these new songs are reactions to each other. Nonetheless, their arrival could not have come at a more chaotic moment.

Earlier this week, Remy connected with two of Claressa Shields’ boxing rivals, Alycia Baumgardner and Amanda Serrano, while promoting music. Shields seemed to engage online, leading to yet another intense chapter in the ongoing rivalry between the women.

Shields shared that she had been “laughing all day,” which led Remy to immediately engage in her replies.

Remy stressed that she is still legally married to Papoose and insisted that he complete the divorce proceedings.

Remy even introduced their legal proceedings into the recent social media conflict, publicly reminding Papoose of their upcoming court date and urging him to “prove” his love for Shields by signing the required documents.

The ongoing tension between Remy and Shields is well known, yet music has increasingly become part of the conflict.

Earlier this year, Remy released “W.Y.F.L.,” a record that many have interpreted as addressing Papoose and Shields. The song addressed Papoose’s earlier assertions regarding his involvement in writing material for Remy. Papoose subsequently issued Remy a cease-and-desist regarding the track, insisting that she cease distribution of the record and remove it entirely.

That history renders Friday’s releases especially intriguing.

Papoose's release of “Jezebel,” coupled with his immediate reference to supporting a woman during her incarceration, makes the timing particularly difficult to ignore.
