Raz-B and his wife Mona Li Thornton are mourning the loss of their infant son, Astro Monte Thornton. The family announced the death via their publicist and spokesperson, David Robinson, in a statement issued to the press, characterizing the loss as unexpected.

The family did not disclose the cause of death or specify when it occurred. Neither Raz-B nor Mona Li has publicly commented on the matter, and their representatives have requested privacy on their behalf as they cope with the loss, expressing gratitude in advance for the love and support they receive. The couple's representative agency, The David Brand, shared the statement again on Thursday.

Astro was born in May. Raz-B announced his arrival himself, posting from the hospital as his family awaited to welcome him. He also shared a family portrait alongside the news. He expressed that he had always desired to capture a genuine family photograph with his own family and that, at last, God had provided a way to do so. He expressed gratitude to his wife for her strength during the pregnancy, describing it as one of the greatest blessings to witness her becoming a mother once more.

Raz-B, whose real name is De’Mario Monte Thornton, has captivated audiences since his teenage years as a member of B2K, the group responsible for hits like “Uh Huh,” “Bump, Bump, Bump,” and “Girlfriend.” B2K emerged as one of the defining acts of early 2000s R&B before their split in 2004. He has dedicated the past few years to touring again with the group for their reunion runs, and he was also on the Boys 4 Life Tour during the pregnancy.
