Months after accusing Klay Thompson of cheating and dissolving their relationship, Megan Thee Stallion is sharing what she learned about respect, independence, and never shrinking for a partner.
After months of revealing her separation from Klay Thompson, Megan Thee Stallion is now speaking out about her emotional recovery and what she refuses to accept moving forward. Megan claims she recognized she was forcing herself into a life that didn't fit after the split ended, one of Hollywood and sports' happiest new couples.
Megan told InStyle that the split was hard.
“I’m doing my best,” she said. “I feel like I’ve been washed and dried with tins, shovels, and a cactus.”
Megan and Thompson originally ignited dating rumors in July 2025 when followers saw him in her Instagram background. Thompson followed with social media teasers before they made their public debut on July 16 at Megan's Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala in NYC.
It sounded like Megan was in love. She considered Thompson the kindest person she has encountered and called their meeting a movie-like “meet cute." Thompson publicly endorsed Megan's foundation efforts. On social media, they shared workouts, golf outings, fishing expeditions, and other moments of their relationship.
The situation changed drastically by April 2026.
In an Instagram Story, Megan accused Thompson of cheating and questioned his faithfulness. Thompson did not address the charges publicly. Later, Megan confirmed she ended the relationship.
I don't compromise on trust, faithfulness, and respect in a relationship; when they're compromised, there's no way forward.”
She now explains her personal turmoil before leaving.
It was incredibly difficult. “Especially…” Megan told InStyle before pondering. “How can I say this gently? What's right for you always works. If something always makes you uneasy and on edge, you shouldn't be there. God will always make you uncomfortable when something is not meant for you. I probably tried to fit myself into someone else's life by fitting unfit pieces. Lost myself somewhat. I'm finding myself again.”
This line left no room for interpretation concerning her future standards.
“You won't disrespect me. You'll be grateful. Period.”
Megan seems to have learned from more than one relationship. The rapper says she now realizes that being someone's partner doesn't mean shrinking.
“Do not disrespect me. I cannot become someone else. Cannot avoid the job. I'll be Megan Thee Stallion."
She added, “I love being me. I enjoy rapping. I enjoy fan interaction. I enjoy making music videos. I don't stay home 24/7. I'll never be that. Whoever dates me must realize she's her person. Her own boss. No one can diminish me. No man has my support. Will have a partner. I shall equal my companion. Never will I back down. From now on, I've learned what kind of people I like and what I won't accept. If you can't handle it, we'll respectfully part ways."
Megan also discussed how infidelity affects self-esteem.
She remarked, "Somebody's failure to see your values doesn't lower your value." Someone cheating on you doesn't affect you. You're still attractive. You're still good. Though it may seem that way. My God, why me? Why am I inadequate? Because it could feel like, "Why am I not enough?"
Megan is content to answer that question without another relationship.
Being alone is fine. I haven't smiled so much in years. She remarked, "I'm twirling in the grass like, wow, I learned it's a beautiful day." “I don't remember doing that last.”
Megan's latest chapter seems to be about finding herself again after a romance that went from a soft launch to red carpets and a public breakup.
