Will Céline Dion be performing at the 2024 Paris Olympics?

The internationally acclaimed artist, aged 56, was captured on camera warmly interacting with her devoted supporters outside the luxurious Royal Monceau Hotel in the vibrant city of Paris on July 23. Speculation has been circulating that she may make a highly anticipated comeback to the concert stage, marking her first performance since revealing her diagnosis of stiff-person syndrome in December 2022.

Dion appeared joyful as she greeted and interacted with her fans, graciously signing autographs at the hotel. This comes shortly after Variety announced that she will be taking part in the upcoming Summer Olympics. At approximately the same time, TMZ broke the news that the singer known for the hit “I’m Alive” will be performing at the highly anticipated opening ceremony on Friday. It has been reported that the artist will be generously compensated with a $2 million paycheck for their one-song performance.

The Queen of Power Ballads has been making quite a few public appearances lately. Most recently, she was seen at the 2024 Upper Deck NHL Draft at the Sphere in Las Vegas on June 28, where she took the stage to announce the Montreal Canadiens’ fifth-round draft pick.

Prior to that, she made an appearance at the premiere of her Prime Video documentary, I Am: Celine Dion, at Alice Tully Hall in New York City. The film documents her journey with stiff-person syndrome and her aspirations to return to the stage in the future.

In an April interview with Vogue France, Dion discussed her future plans for live performances. “I’m sorry, but I don’t have the information to provide a response to that question…” For the past four years, she has been telling herself that she won’t go back, that she’s prepared, that she’s not prepared,” she shared with the outlet. “Given the current circumstances, I am unable to confidently assure you that within the next four months.” I’m not sure… I will rely on my body’s signals. However, I don’t want to simply sit around and do nothing.

During the conversation, Dion expressed, “Living from day to day can be morally challenging.” It’s challenging, I’m putting in a lot of effort and tomorrow will be even more demanding. Tomorrow brings new opportunities. But there’s one thing that will never cease, and that’s determination. It’s all about the passion. It’s an absolute dream come true. It’s all about the determination.

The vocalist of “Because You Loved Me” also expressed her desire to return to Paris, emphasizing her determination to regain her physical fitness for her career as a touring musician. “I’ve decided to dedicate myself fully, both physically and emotionally, to working alongside a medical team.” I aspire to reach my full potential. I long to behold the Eiffel Tower once more!

During the documentary’s recent release, Dion hinted at her comeback in an interview with PEOPLE, expressing her excitement about putting together a new show and sharing her abundance of ideas. I’m really excited.

Hoda Kotb, who interviewed Dion last month for Today, recently discussed the exciting possibility of Dion performing at the Paris Olympics during an interview on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

“Céline Dion performing at the Paris Olympics?” That would be incredible, but I’m unsure. I heard that she will be performing live again, though. I’m not sure where,” Kotb, 59, explained. “She will have another performance, and there will always be a scheduled date and time for her to showcase her talents.”
