John Mbadi has been appointed Finance Minister by Kenya’s President

John Mbadi was appointed finance minister by Kenyan President William Ruto on Wednesday. Members of the opposition coalition would be included in the cabinet of the proposed broad-based government.

Ruto’s recent appointments are an attempt to address the complaints of the youth demonstrators who have shook the country of East Africa in recent weeks.

In response to demands from the youth-led protests, which had already compelled him to back down from projected tax hikes of $2.7 billion in the midst of the worst crisis of his two-year presidency, he dismissed former ministers in bulk earlier this month.

Ruto announced on Wednesday that he will also be putting forth changes to the nation’s legislation pertaining to public procurement and anti-corruption.
