Wiz Khalifa was accused of possessing illegal drugs during a festival in Romania

Wiz Khalifa is discovering the hard way that not every nation accepts weed.

Romania did not feel the same way as the “Black and Yellow” hitmaker, who likes partying hard in the US without facing any repercussions. The rapper was taken into custody for reportedly smoking during a performance and for carrying eighteen grams of the “risk drug.”

Cannabis is no stranger to Wiz Khalifa, who co-founded the cannabis company Khalifa Kush and regularly mentions the drug in his songs.

Arrested for Smoking During a Performance, Wiz Khalifa

Wiz Khalifa’s arrest was made public on Sunday by the Romanian anti-organized crime prosecutors (DIICOT) in a statement. They explained the scenario, pointing to the rapper even though they did not use his name.

“On 14.07.2024, the prosecutors of the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism – Constanța Territorial Service ordered the initiation of criminal proceedings against a defendant (US citizen), investigated for the crime of unlawful possession of risk drugs,” they stated.

“It was noted that he, during a recital held during a music festival held in the resort of Costinești, Constanța county, possessed over 18 grams of cannabis (risk drug) and consumed (on stage) another amount of cannabis under the shape of a craft cigarette,” the note added.

The DIICOT statement emphasized that investigators will treat prosecutors fairly. They said that Wiz Khalifa will “benefit from the presumption of innocence, as well as the procedural rights and guarantees provided by the Code of Criminal Procedure.”

Wiz Khalifa is accused of possessing illegal drugs.

After being taken into custody on Sunday, Wiz Khalifa is now formally accused of possessing illegal drugs. In Romania, cannabis is classified as a “risk drug” and possession carries a maximum ten-year prison sentence.

According to a person familiar with the inquiry, Wiz Khalifa and other people had been brought in early on Sunday to be questioned. According to Barron’s, the insider stated that he was charged but not detained.

The hip-hop artist was the main attraction at the “Beach, Please!” festival in the Black Seaside village of Costinesti, Romania, as shown in a video posted on X. He sat back for a minute, burning up a big joint as the MC filled him with gas.

The video also showed Wiz Khalifa being removed off the property by the authorities. He spoke, but it was unclear to whom, saying, “Don’t come near me, bro. Don’t do anything, don’t surround me. No, I’m not leaving.

The Rapper Responds Positively to His Arrest

Wiz Khalifa’s encounter with Romanian officials did not leave him with a bad taste in his mouth; rather, it enhanced his time there. He wrote a favorable response to his arrest on X, saying:

“The concert last night was fantastic. My intention in lighting up the stage was not to offend Romania. They allowed me to leave with much respect. I’ll be back shortly. But the next time, not with a big ass joint.”

Fans, particularly those from Romania, responded favorably to his remarks with notes praising his contrite attitude. Someone wrote, “At least you did it respectfully!” while someone else added, “It’s okay!!!!” I have my ticket ready, Wiz, so come back next year! You blazed!”

Cannabis Company Suit Filed Against Wiz Khalifa

The Blast revealed that Wiz Khalifa and Michael Strahan were sued for their cannabis business, Khalifa Kush, four years prior to his arrest. Carlos Arias, one of the co-owners, launched the action, claiming he had a right to earnings.

Arias asserted in court filings that he was not granted a cut of the business’s earnings, which included a cannabis license agreement worth at least $20,000,000.

Along with other offenses, he charged the two with “breach of fiduciary duty, aiding and abetting fiduciary breaches.”

Wiz Khalifa and Strahan, according to Arias, were involved in “wrongful conduct” that included stealing “more than $100,000,000 in assets” from KKE USA and the Khalifa Kush Joint Venture, as well as usurping and misappropriating assets.

Wiz Khalifa is charged with planning the scheme.

In his lawsuit, Arias took aim at Wiz Khalifa and his group, alleging that they planned their cunning plot in concert with outside legal advice. He charged them with misappropriating assets and keeping the money for oneself.

The complaint further said that Wiz Khalifa’s strategy benefited some third parties, including Strahan and SMAC Entertainment. His “fair and equitable interest in the Nominal Defendants’ assets” was, however, denied to him in the interim.

Wiz Khalifa still has a strong affection for cannabis in spite of this lawsuit and his recent incarceration in Romania. It is still to be seen, though, if he would manage to get away from Romanian officials unscathed.
