Russia favors Trump as the election winner, according to US intelligence sources

According to a U.S. intelligence official on Tuesday, Russia does not appear to be favoring Republican Donald Trump over the other candidate in the 2024 presidential race, unlike in prior U.S. elections.

When asked if Moscow preferred Trump as the U.S. intelligence community had determined it did for the 2016 and 2020 elections, the official, briefing reporters on U.S. election security, did not identify the outgoing president and presumed Republican contender.

Yet according to the official, Russia continued to support Trump.

In light of the U.S.’s involvement in Ukraine and its larger strategy toward Russia, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence official stated, “We have not observed a shift in Russia’s preferences for the presidential race from past elections.”

According to the official, no nation has been observing U.S. efforts to “degrade or disrupt” the country’s capacity to host elections in 2024.

He did, however, note that Washington has observed Russia attempting to “denigrate specific” politicians and sway certain voting groups.

According to the official, China has no plans to sway the results of the 2024 presidential election.
