Democrats are considering pulling Biden out of the presidential contest, so he digs in

After a dismal debate performance, some Democrats were trying to get President Joe Biden to drop out of the run for reelection. On Friday, Biden fought back and declared, “I’m staying in the race.”

In an intense speech to Wisconsin supporters and an interview with ABC News, Biden maintained that he is the most qualified Democratic contender to stop Republican Donald Trump from winning the presidency again on November 5.

Following his lackluster performance in his June 27 debate with Trump, some Democrats expressed grave worries regarding Biden’s 81-year-old mental capacity and endurance.

There is a push within the party to get him to resign, as detractors warn that he is almost certain to lose and may bring other Democrats down with him. When they return to Washington next week, House Democrats and a number of senators are anticipated to meet to discuss the matter.

Trump’s lead has grown in several polls of the general public since the debate, and according to a Reuters/Ipsos survey, one in three Democrats want Biden to get out of the race.

On Friday, Biden disapproved of the movement.

We got into a small argument last week. I couldn’t say that I gave my best effort. However, a lot of conjecture has been around ever since. “What will Joe do?” Will he continue in the race? Will he leave school? stated Biden. “Well here’s my answer: I am running and gonna win again.”

In a 22-minute interview with ABC News, Biden reiterated his claim that he was OK overall and just had a rough night at the debate.

After being questioned nonstop by ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos, Biden rejected polls that showed him lagging behind Trump and said that other surveys put him ahead of the competition.

When asked if he had completed a certain cognitive test as part of a neurological examination, Biden responded that he hadn’t and that “no one said I had to.” He asserted that the White House’s strictures are adequate.

His most recent physical examination, conducted on February 28, found him to be fit for duty.
Biden continued, saying that only “Lord almighty” could remove him from the race and that he was the greatest opponent for Trump.

Some brushed off Biden’s most recent attempts to persuade Democrats to support him, but he appeared committed to continuing the fight.

Democratic strategist David Axelrod, a former top adviser to President Barack Obama, told CNN that “he seems not to be able to compute the fact that people have these questions about him.”

A top DNC official told Reuters, “It’s pretty clear that he’s not going anywhere unless there’s a major revolt on the Hill.”

UPRISING AROUND THE HILL?

According to a source who spoke to Reuters, Democratic senators are being invited to a meeting on Monday by well-known moderate Democrat Senator Mark Warner to talk about Biden’s campaign. According to The Washington Post, Warner was hoping to get the organization to pressure Biden to withdraw from the campaign.

After speaking with at least twenty congressmen, Biden informed reporters that they were advising him to stay. In response to a question concerning Warner’s demand that he step down, Biden stated, “Well, Mark Warner, to my understanding, is the only one considering that.”
At the event, Biden expressed his gratitude to Kamala Harris, his vice president, for her support. Harris has become the front-runner to succeed him as the Democratic Party’s leader should he decide to leave down.

At the Madison demonstration, a supporter of Biden held up a sign that read, “Pass the torch, Joe.”

Following the rally, Harris wrote a supporting message on X, stating that Biden has dedicated his life to defending Americans. “In this moment, I know all of us are ready to fight for him,” she continued.

However, Democratic Representative Mike Quigley of Illinois urged Biden to step aside and “let someone else do this” on MSNBC, warning that doing otherwise would mean risking “utter catastrophe.”
In his Friday appearances, Biden delivered scathing assaults on Trump that were missing from his appearance on the debate stage in Atlanta, disparaging his IQ and labeling him a liar.

However, he reserved harsher remarks for his party’s supporters who don’t think he can guide them to victory on November 5.

“Their goal is to disqualify me from the competition. Let me state this as plainly as possible: I intend to continue in the race! Trump will lose to me. 2020 will see me defeat him once more,” Biden declared, mispronouncing the year. In addition, he said, “And by the way, we’re going to do it again in 2024.”

BUSINESS LEADER, DONOR, AND ALLY

A few prominent businesspeople and donors are vocally expressing their disapproval of Biden’s candidacy by stopping their support or considering other Democratic candidates. Biden’s health has been questioned even by some of his closest political allies, such as former Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

In a rare move for a Democratic governor, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey asked Biden to carefully consider her decision in a statement she released on Friday.

“President Biden saved our democracy in 2020 and has done an outstanding job over the last four years,” she stated. “The president has to decide what the best course of action is at this time. I implore him to pay close attention to what the American people have to say in the coming days and consider carefully if he is still our greatest chance to unseat Donald Trump.”

In an attempt to undermine Harris, the Trump team and some of its friends have moved quickly to start a preemptive political assault on her.

In a video that went viral on social media, the 78-year-old Trump, who made numerous bogus claims at the Atlanta debate, claimed that he had forced Biden out of the race. In the same video, he made derogatory remarks about Harris, which the Trump campaign supported.

In a letter to the White House on Friday, a group of civic and business leaders encouraged Biden to withdraw his reelection campaign, one day after the CEO of the group stated that members would still support him in the event that he ran, according to the Washington Post.
Ron Klain, the former director of staff for Joe Biden who oversaw his preparations prior to the debate, dismissed the concerns raised by contributors. He posted on X, “We are the Democratic Party!” Sponsors “don’t get to decide to oust a pro-labor pro-people President.”
