George Boateng, a former assistant coach for Ghana, is excited to take on a coaching role at Coventry

Prior to the upcoming season, Boateng—who played his first English football game at Coventry in 1998—was added to the Sky Blues’ technical team.

This week, the club kicked off pre-season with the former Dutch international joining Rhys Carr and manager Mark Robins.

“I’m excited to say that I’m back at Coventry City FC, my first love in English football! It is a privilege to return and collaborate with Mark Robins and the whole team from 1998 till 2024. After training on Wednesday, he commented on X, “I want to express my gratitude to Coventry City FC for this incredible opportunity.”

Following Ghana’s early elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, the Black Stars technical team under Chris Hughton was disbanded, and he returned to management.

“We are thrilled to have George and Rhys join Coventry City,” Coventry City manager Mark Robins stated.

“They both impressed us throughout the rigorous hiring process for this significant position, and they each offer valuable expertise to the football department.”

“We are eager to start working with them because their experience and knowledge will greatly aid our work to maximize the performance and preparation of our team, both in advance of and on matchdays.”

Boateng played for Aston Villa, Middlesborough, and Coventry City in England for the majority of his playing career.
