As the plane lands in Brazil, turbulence causes 30 injuries

There were numerous injuries when the 325-passenger Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner operated by Air Europa encountered intense turbulence.

After a plane encountered “strong turbulence” and had to make an emergency landing in Brazil, at least 30 persons were reported injured.

The incident happened in midair on an Air Europa Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner that was traveling from Madrid to Montevideo, the company said.

Flight UX045 was supposed to arrive in the capital of Uruguay, but it was rerouted to Natal airport in northeastern Brazil, according to the Spanish corporation on X, formerly social media.

The airline reported that people who were hurt were “getting attention.” An Air Europa spokeswoman stated that the aircraft, carrying 325 passengers, experienced turbulence over the Atlantic shortly prior to arriving at the Brazilian coast.

Numerous ambulances were there to welcome the airliner as it safely touched down. Authorities at the airport reported that certain passengers needed medical attention and were sent to the closest hospital.

At least 30 passengers of various countries were treated by a local medical team, 10 of whom were admitted to the hospital, according to information provided to Brazilian media. The team said that the turbulence had caused the injured to suffer head injuries, including cranial fractures and facial wounds.

This event comes after another one that happened recently, in which a British man died, and other people were injured due to extreme turbulence on a Singapore Airlines aircraft over Myanmar. Although severe turbulence is rare, new study indicates that its frequency may be rising due to climate change.
