Former workers of Kanye West have filed a scathing lawsuit, claiming they were called “new slaves”
Untrustworthy details regarding the working conditions at rapper Kanye West’s Yeezy brand have surfaced from a lawsuit that was just filed.
West and Milo Yiannopoulos, his former chief of staff, were named defendants in the lawsuit, whereby they were accused of “fostering a racist environment” and making staff members put in “insanely long hours.”
The documents also mentioned model Bianca Censori, whose husband is Kanye West, for allegedly emailing staff members pornographic materials that were viewable by kids.
Kanye West is accused of making absurdly long work hours mandatory.
TMZ reports that a group of irate Yeezy workers have sued West and his former head of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, in a U.S. District Court.
The complaint was based on allegations that West “forced them to work insanely long hours” and would not abide by labor agreements.
West employed the unhappy workers—adults and children as young as 14—as developers to work on his YZYVSN streaming service app, which he intended to use to promote his two new albums, “Vultures” and “Vultures 2.”
If they “completed the app,” “agreed to the work conditions,” and “didn’t complain,” they were allegedly offered $120,000 in salary.
They were, however, abruptly compelled to sign non-disclosure agreements or risk losing their employment and not getting paid. In the meantime, the lesser workers had to sign “volunteer” agreements, which implied they would not be paid for their contributions.
The Rapper allegedly declined to give the workers their salaries.
According to court records, the engineers primarily worked on the app from a distance, using online communication platforms like Slack to provide feedback to showrunners West, Yiannopoulos, and others who were relevant.
They claimed that because of the need to deliver soon, they worked very hard to have a completed app to West by May 1, 2024.
They took legal action to break the impasse since they were not receiving a response from Yiannopoulos or West when they asked for their compensation.
The former workers are now requesting overtime pay in addition to full payment of their outstanding earnings. In addition, they are requesting compensation for the psychological suffering they endured while working for Yeezy.
Kanye West Faced Charges of “Cultivating A Racist Work Environment”
The developers also claimed in the documents that Yeezy white managers overseeing the foreign and minority personnel publicly “mocked with racist jabs” at them.
There were insulting remarks made about their “age, race, gender, sexual orientation, and national origin.” They further claimed that in various interactions at work, some of their coworkers were referred to as “slaves” and “new slaves.”
According to the documents, Yiannopoulos “once sent a chat message with a Black/brown skin emoji to an African American team member” and referred to a member of the staff who was a junior as a “school shooter.” Yiannopoulos was one of the senior employees who was accused of acting in a racist manner.
West’s spouse, Censori, faced criticism for allegedly “sending one worker a file-sharing link containing hardcore sexual activity,” which appeared to be related to the creation of the rapper’s pornographic app. It was alleged that she did nothing to prevent kids from watching the obscene videos.
Chief of Staff for Kanye West Resigned Amid Rapper’s Entry Into Pornography
The complaint was filed a few weeks after Yiannopoulos left Yeezy because of Kanye West’s project at a pornographic studio.
In his letter of resignation, the 32-year-old stated that he “cannot be complicit in the production of pornographic films and literature, for moral and religious reasons.”
In addition, he declared that participating in the project would put his life in jeopardy as a recovering addict and his spiritual and bodily health at unacceptable risk as a former gay.
But he did leave the door open for a potential return, if Yeezy dropped the idea.
In addition to Yiannopoulos, a number of other showrunners also departed the company at the same time; however, it’s unclear if these departures had anything to do with the porn studio idea.
In addition, West faced a lot of criticism after revealing the plan, which apparently made him reconsider even though he had already consulted with people like producer and porn star Michael “Mike Moz” Mosny.
Kanye West previously condemned pornography.
The rapper known as “Gold Digger” surprised everyone by venturing into the adult film industry, having previously disclosed his struggles with addiction to porn.
West, who formerly shared a family with reality TV star Kim Kardashian, had previously opened openly about his battles with a porn addiction and subsequently lamented how it had destroyed his family, according to the Daily Mail.
The “Vultures 1” rapper acknowledged having a “full-on pornography addiction” in an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1 Radio in 2019. He said that his addiction started when he was five years old when he came across a Playboy magazine.
“Playboy was my entryway into a full-blown addiction to pornography,” he stated. The Playboy my dad left out when he was five years old has influenced nearly every decision I’ve taken in life.”
He said, “From age five til now, having to kick the habit, and it just presents itself in the open like it’s OK, and I stand up and say, ‘No, it’s not ok.'”
