Kenya upsets champions, Namibia gets tested in Angola

In their first Group B match on Thursday night, Kenya defeated Zambia 2-0 in one of the biggest Cosafa Cup upsets in recent memory.

Kenya, who received a special invitation to the tournament, got off to a fast start at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and quickly had Zambia under control.

In Gqeberha, the Harambee Stars took a well-earned lead in the ninth minute thanks to a converted penalty kick by Austin Odhiambo, and ten minutes later, Patrick Otieno doubled his country’s advantage.

For the whole of their match, Kenya proved to be a difficult team to beat after taking the lead, while Zambia kept applying pressure in an effort to score first.

After Kelvin Kapumbu was sent off in the 94th minute, Zambia’s performance was summed up with a sending off well into stoppage time.

The fixtures for Friday are as follows: at 3:00 pm CAT, Lesotho and Seychelles will square off at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, and Angola and Namibia will play a Group C match.
