Six are sanctioned by the EU because to the ongoing war in Sudan
On Monday, EU nations imposed sanctions on six individuals in Sudan due to the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that has taken over the nation.
Among the names on the list is a general in charge of the RSF in West Darfur, who the EU Council claims is accountable for sexual violence, ethnically motivated killings, atrocities, looting, and burning of villages.
They also include a well-known tribal chieftain of the Mahamid clan connected to the RSF in West Darfur, as well as the organization’s financial adviser.
The EU Council declared that the director of Defense Industry Systems and the commander of the Sudanese Air Force are the targets of sanctions on behalf of the Sudanese army due to their involvement in the “indiscriminate aerial bombing of densely populated residential areas”.
Ali Ahmed Karti Mohamed, a former minister of foreign affairs of Sudan, is also on the list.
The 27-nation European Union has now placed an asset freeze and travel ban on the six.
