Patrick Mahomes says in an exclusive interview that he will not be attending his high school class’s 10-year reunion this year

Patrick Mahomes will soon celebrate his ten-year high school reunion!

Speaking to PEOPLE on Thursday, June 13 at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City for the 2024 Super Bowl ring ceremony, Patrick, 28, disclosed that he will turn 28 later this year. This represents ten years since he graduated from Whitehouse High School in Texas. But he’s not going to the forthcoming reunion festivities.

September is the month. The quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs says to PEOPLE, “We actually talked about this with my friends last weekend.

“Well, she’s older than me by ten years,” the athlete continues, pointing to his 28-year-old wife Brittany. Though Patrick was a junior in high school, Brittany was a sophomore. The two are still in love.

She is currently at eleven. I’ll send my best wishes to all of my students, but I won’t be able to celebrate,” Patrick explains.

At the occasion on Thursday, Patrick—who had earlier been awarded the MVP of the Super Bowl 2024—as well as his teammates received gaudy rings following the Chiefs’ thrilling 25-22 victory over the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on February 11, 2024. The following evening, Brittany posted some adorable behind-the-scenes photos from the event to her Instagram Stories.

After defeating the Philadelphia Eagles the previous year, Kansas City’s victory in this year’s Super Bowl marked their second straight victory. Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce, 34, have the chance to lead the squad to their third consecutive championship as the upcoming NFL season approaches.

Shortly after the squad visited President Joe Biden to celebrate their Super Bowl victory at the White House, on June 13, there would be a ring ceremony. The first team to win back-to-back in 20 years is the Kansas City Chiefs. That’s quite nice, “81-year-old Biden said.

“At last year’s White House Super Bowl celebration, I said this team was building a dynasty, which means everyone’s coming to you after starting this season, red hot, and you all had your share of struggles when the doubters question whether you can pull it off again,” Biden went on.

“I don’t know how that feels, but believe me, whatever.” Well, I don’t think anyone is now questioning you. You persevered and battled valiantly.”

This week, the Chiefs had their mandated mini-camp, which ran from Tuesday to Thursday, during which they were presented with their Super Bowl rings.

The squad will now get some time off before training camp starts on July 23.
