Rwanda and South Africa Accompany Benin At the Head of Group C

Bafana Bafana defeated Zimbabwe 3-1 on Tuesday night in a thrilling 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, rewarding the thousands of supporters who flocked to Free State Stadium with an outstanding display.

Iqraam Rayners scored the game’s first goal in the first minute of play, giving coach Hugo Broos’ charges a clear indication of their intentions from the outset. Fans celebrating their home team’s incredible start to the game sent Free State Stadium into a frenzy.

However, Tawanda Chirewa of Zimbabwe answered a minute later with the equalizer, briefly dampening the festivities. The home team attempted to score a goal to take back the lead, but they were unable to make the necessary breakthrough.

At one point apiece, the two teams were still even at halftime. In the second half, the senior men’s side from South Africa came back stronger, and substitute Thapelo Morena’s goal in the 55th minute gave them the lead again.

In the 76th minute, Morena scored his second goal of the evening and the third for Bafana Bafana, putting the game beyond the visitors. With heartfelt cheers, enthusiastic singing, and unwavering support from the stands, the Bloemfontein supporters made the night unforgettable for the Bafana Bafana players and coaching staff.

With seven points, South Africa is now ranked second in FIFA World Group C qualifying. Due to differing goals, they are tied with Rwanda, the group leaders.
