According to NATO’s Stoltenberg, Ukraine has the authority to strike targets in Russia

During a Friday visit to Sweden, a recently admitted member of the alliance, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that Ukraine has the legal right, under international law, to attack legitimate military targets in Russia in self-defense.

“Ukraine has the right to self defense,” Stoltenberg declared during a press conference held at a military installation close to Stockholm alongside Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.

“The right to self-defense also includes the right to hit legitimate, military targets on the territory of the attacking party, the aggressor, in this case Russia.”

After President Vladimir Putin stated he was thinking about equipping the West’s adversaries in retaliation, the Kremlin stated this week that Western countries arming Ukraine to attack Russian territory will have to deal with Russia.

“This is a war of attack that Russia has begun against a peaceful, democratic neighboring country, Ukraine, that at no point has been a threat to Russia,” Stoltenberg stated.

“There is no question that Ukraine has the right to hit targets on Russian territory.”
