In Hunter Biden’s federal gun trial, where he is accused of purchasing three illegal firearms, the jury selection process has begun
Hunter Biden was charged with making false claims on a federal firearms form, attesting to his lack of drug use despite his purported addiction.
In Delaware, Hunter Biden’s federal gun trial began jury selection on Monday. Biden was charged with three felonies for allegedly purchasing and possessing a handgun illegally in 2018 while under the influence of drugs.
Due to his commitment to a fundraiser in Connecticut, President Joe Biden was unable to attend the hearing. However, he did provide a statement in which he expressed his support for his son while declining to comment on the trial, according to CBS News.
In his statement, Biden said, “Jill and I adore our son and are incredibly proud of the man he has become.”
“We are inspired by Hunter’s fortitude in the face of hardship and the strength he has brought to his recuperation,” he continued. Many families understand what we mean because they have loved ones who have overcome addiction.
Days earlier, in his hush money criminal trial, a Manhattan jury had found former US President Donald Trump guilty on all 34 charges of falsifying business records. This was an unprecedented and historic conviction, making Trump the first former US president to be found guilty of a felony in US history.
Judge Juan Merchan scheduled a sentencing hearing for July 11; however, Trump’s exact punishment is still up in the air and may involve probation or jail time.
When US District Judge Maryellen Noreika questioned whether the agreement would allow him to avoid potential future charges, a diversion agreement for a felony gun offence and a plea deal related to misdemeanor tax charges fell apart. As a result, Joe Biden’s son was indicted by a federal grand jury in September.
