The Kremlin asserts that it is imperative for the Western countries to initiate discussions in order to alleviate the escalating nuclear tensions
The Kremlin emphasized on Wednesday that a comprehensive and substantive conversation is the key to mitigating the escalating tensions between Russia and the West, particularly in the nuclear domain. However, despite the potential hazards, the “collective West” is declining to participate in this discourse.
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has caused a significant deterioration in relations between the East and the West, reaching a level of danger comparable to the Cuban missile crisis of 1962. On Tuesday, Russia’s defense ministry announced that its forces have commenced the initial phase of exercises, as directed by President Vladimir Putin, to simulate the readiness for deploying tactical nuclear weapons.
Nuclear experts assert that Russia’s military drills, being the largest nuclear power globally, are strategically intended by Putin to serve as a deterrent to the Western countries, discouraging them from further involvement in the conflict in Ukraine. Western nations have supplied weaponry and intelligence to Kyiv, but have abstained from deploying military personnel.
In response to a query regarding the potential for a nuclear conflict, Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Kremlin, stated on Wednesday that the increasing tensions in Europe and ongoing conflicts in many parts of the world were eroding stability and predictability.
“The continued increase in these tensions has the potential to be hazardous, particularly in the realm of nuclear weapons,” Peskov stated during a press briefing.
“The current situation necessitates extensive discussion to employ political and diplomatic approaches to find solutions to this tense state of affairs.” However, the countries of the collective West refuse to engage in comprehensive and meaningful discussions with the primary stakeholders,” he stated.
