Morocco, Angola, and Libya will be the opponents in the futsal world cup

The competition’s draw, which takes place in Samarkand on Sunday, May 26, will reveal the identities of Africa’s group stage opponents at the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan.

Futsal Africa Cup of Nations winners Morocco, Angola, and Libya will compete for representation on our continent in the 24-team field.

The 24 teams will be split up into six groups of four for the draw, which will use four “pots” for seeding, with one team from each pot going to a group.

Pot 1 comprises the top five teams, namely Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Iran, and Argentina, together with the hosts, Uzbekistan.

Pot 2 is headed by African champions Morocco and includes Kazakhstan, Thailand, France, Ukraine, and Paraguay.

In Pot 4, the African nations of Angola and Libya are joined by Cuba, Panama, the Netherlands, and Guatemala. In Pot 3, the countries of Croatia, New Zealand, Venezuela, Afghanistan, Costa Rica, and Tajikistan are included.

“We can expect serious opposition given the teams participating in this World Cup,” Dguig continued. We had to get right to business because there won’t be any time to waste.

“The Futsal World Cup doesn’t need to be jealous of its 11-a-side counterpart in terms of marketing, infrastructure, or playing standards. We’re anticipating a fantastic futsal festival, which I’m sure Uzbekistan is organizing. It promises to be a World Cup to remember.

The fourth World Cup appearance for the Moroccan coach is a source of pride as well: “It’s very satisfying.” But without the support of the Moroccan federation, my teammates, and the sports policies of King Mohammed VI—who allows us to have first-rate facilities and fulfill our mandate—I could not have succeeded in my role as coach of Morocco.

The draw is scheduled for this Sunday at the UNESCO World Heritage site, Registan Square.

At the competition, which takes place in September and October, Morocco stands as Africa’s best chance. The Atlas Lions are hoping to improve on their 2021 World Cup quarterfinal performance.

Brazil, the five-time World Cup winners, defeated the North Africans 1-0, but coach Hicham Dguig is adamant that his team will grow from the experience.

With five world titles under their belt, Brazil is among the best futsal nations in the world. That was a psychological barrier, and since it was our first quarterfinal, they had more experience than we had. We want to go as far as we can now that we’re mentally more toughened from fighting, he told FIFA.com.
