King Salman of Saudi Arabia will receive treatment for inflammation of the lungs

The King’s health has forced Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Bin Salman to postpone his trip to Japan.

Following a battery of diagnostic tests, word leaked out on Sunday that King Salman of Saudi Arabia will be treated at Al Salam Palace in Jeddah for inflammation of the lungs.

The 88-year-old monarch, according to the royal palace and the state news agency, will be treated with antibiotics until the inflammation goes down.

The health of King Salman forced Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, the group’s operational commander, to postpone his planned Monday arrival in Japan, according to Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi.

“Saudi Arabia informed the Japanese government that due to the health condition of King Salman of Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Mohammed’s visit to Japan, which had been scheduled to begin on the 20th, had to be postponed,” Hayashi stated during a press conference in Tokyo.

According to reports, King Salman had medical testing earlier on Sunday due to “high temperature and joint pain” at the royal clinics in A1 Salam Palace.

The King was admitted to the hospital in April for a standard check-up.

After more than 2.5 years as the deputy premier and crown prince, King Salman took over as the head of the world’s top oil exporting country in 2015 and took on the role of steward of the holiest places in Islam.

When the King fell ill, the crown prince was in the kingdom talking with U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on a tactical accord between Washington and Riyadh.

An inquiry about the crown prince’s travel cancellation was not promptly answered by the Saudi Arabian embassy in Japan. He had appointments with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Emperor Naruhito during his tour, which ran from May 20 to May 23.
