The ultimate objective of Junior Starlets is to earn a spot in the inaugural World Cup – Cheche

Head coach Mildred Cheche of the Kenya Women’s U17 National Team, Junior Starlets, has emphasized the team’s goal as they prepare to play Ethiopia in the second leg of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifier.

In preparation for the second leg, which is scheduled for Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 3 pm at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, the team intensified their training this week following a hard-fought 0-0 stalemate in the first leg at the Abebe Bekila Stadium in Addis Ababa.

We are really excited to be playing this qualification because it brings us one step closer to the World Cup, especially for the girls. As a team, we all want to give it our all and ensure success. “We want to play in the World Cup for the first time ever,” stated Cheche.

Speaking about the preparations, Assistant Captain Velma Abwire said, “We’ve trained hard this week and are ready to give it our all on Sunday.” We invite all of our supporters to come out and help us win.

In line with these views, Captain Elizabeth Ochaka issued a rallying cry for all Kenyans, saying, “We urge our fans to come out in large numbers to support us on Sunday at Ulinzi Complex.”

The victor of this match advances to the ultimate round, where they will square off against Burundi. The winner of that round will automatically qualify for the October 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic.
