Former Manchester United and Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has been appointed head coach of Heerenveen

The Dutch team Heerenveen has announced Robin van Persie as their new head coach. Van Persie was a striker for Manchester United and Arsenal in the past.

He has committed himself to the Eredivisie team for the next two seasons by signing a contract.

Van Persie’s first senior managerial position is in Heerenveen.

After declaring retirement from competition in 2019, Van Persie led the under-18 team at his previous club, Feyenoord, while serving as a specialist and young coach.

“I practice coaching with a lot of passion and pleasure, and it’s a comprehensive and challenging profession,” he stated. I am eager to keep growing, and being a head coach is a great way to achieve that goal. For this reason, I am thrilled about the chance Heerenveen is giving me.

“Heerenveen is a lovely club with devoted followers and a long history. As head coach, it’s an incredible challenge to be able to support the team’s growth and sporting goals.

Van Persie, who holds the record for most goals scored by the Netherlands men’s national team and was named PFA Players’ Player of the Year in 2012, won the Premier League with Manchester United in 2013. Before retiring that year, he scored 26 goals in the top flight to win Sir Alex Ferguson’s final league trophy.

The forty-year-old left United in 2015 to join Fenerbahce, where he scored 58 goals in 105 games. After returning to Feyenoord in 2017, he gave up playing two years later.

Van Persie went back to United’s Carrington training facility in February to finish a need for his UEFA Pro License. He was given permission by the club to observe training sessions led by Erik ten Hag and interview personnel.

In their final game of the season, Heerenveen—currently ranked tenth in the Eredivisie standings—will play Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday.
