The CEO of Universal Music Group and Sean “Diddy” Combs’ lawsuit has been dismissed

The case accusing Universal Music Group (UMG) and its CEO, Lucian Grainge, of “aiding and abetting” Sean “Diddy” Combs in alleged sexual assault has been dismissed. This ruling comes after the plaintiff’s attorney admitted that the allegations lacked sufficient legal support.

UMG’s legal team stated two months ago that the claims were so unfounded that they planned to pursue legal action against Tyrone Blackburn, the accuser’s attorney, for including them into the case. Blackburn asked for UMG to be dismissed with prejudice, prohibiting further filings, and acknowledged that he found “no legal basis for the claims and allegations” against the company in a declaration submitted on Monday, May 13.

Donald Zakarin, the lead attorney for UMG, responded by agreeing to withdraw the charges but chastising Blackburn for bringing them up in the first place. “The allegations were baseless, and the UMG defendants should never have been mentioned in any of these complaints,” Zakarin said.

Blackburn sent questions to UMG and Combs’ lawyer instead of offering a statement on his choice to drop the lawsuit.

The lawsuit, which was first filed in late February, claimed that Combs had harassed and sexually assaulted producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones when the rapper was working on “The Love Album,” his 2023 album. Jones’ lawsuit also accused UMG, Grainge, and other parties of engaging in a wide-ranging conspiracy to break both the federal RICO Act and anti-sex trafficking laws.

The lawyers for UMG said that these statements were “entirely invented by Mr. Blackburn,” calling them “recklessly false” and defamatory in the absence of a formal complaint. Blackburn was also the target of penalties for what they considered to be intentionally false accusations.

“Mr. Blackburn has misused that license to self-promote, gratuitously, falsely, and recklessly accuse the UMG defendants of criminal behavior,” Zakarin said, emphasizing the seriousness of abusing legal powers.

Even after UMG and Grainge were sued and the action was dismissed, Sean “Diddy” Combs is still accused of being abused, which he has vehemently denied.
