Ahead of his visit to Beijing, Putin expresses support for China’s proposed peace plan for Ukraine

Putin has expressed his support for China’s plan to end its conflict with Ukraine and praised China for having a thorough grasp of the situation.

In an interview that was released early on Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that he agrees with China’s suggestion for a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine conflict in advance of his trip to Beijing later this week. According to Putin, China is well-aware of the crisis’s global significance and its underlying roots.

Putin stressed Russia’s commitment to communication and discussion as a way to end the dispute, which has lasted for more than two years, in an interview with China’s Xinhua news agency. He applauded China’s strategy, pointing out that it considers the crisis’s underlying roots and encourages positive measures to get past the Cold War mindset.

According to a translation available on the Kremlin website in Russian, Putin stated, “We are positive in our assessment of China’s approach to solving the Ukrainian crisis.” “They really comprehend its underlying causes and its global geopolitical significance in Beijing.”

More over a year ago, China first put up a 12-point plan that outlined broad guidelines for resolving the crisis; but, at the time, neither Russia nor Ukraine responded favorably to it.

Russia views the conflict as a fight between itself and the “collective West,” which has promoted NATO’s eastward expansion and military operations along its borders while ignoring Moscow’s security concerns. Russia refers to its efforts in Ukraine as a “special operation” aimed at disarming the country and defending it from fascists. Meanwhile, the fascist accusation is unfounded, as seen by Ukraine and Western countries, who see Russia’s activities as unprovoked aggression.

China has participated in some of the summit’s preparatory discussions, and Ukraine has worked very hard to convince it to go.

Although China and Russia have recently forged a closer alliance and even declared a “no limits” partnership, China has not directly backed Russia militarily in its confrontation with Ukraine.

Ukraine, meanwhile, is still in favor of Russia withdrawing its troops, reestablishing its post-Soviet boundaries from 1991, and taking responsibility for its actions.
