UN Employee Died in Gaza Attack; Another Was Hurt

With profound concern, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres denounced the attacks on UN staff in Gaza.

The UN said that on Monday, while traveling to a hospital in southern Gaza, one of its employees was murdered and another was injured.

When it was hit, the staff were on their way to the European Hospital, which is close to Rafah, in a UN van. The attack’s cause was not assigned by the UN.

The Israeli military claimed they didn’t know the vehicle’s route and that their preliminary investigation showed it was struck in an area of active battle. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are presently reviewing the event.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres sent his condolences to the worker’s family and conveyed his profound regret at their passing. He demanded a thorough inquiry and denounced all assaults on UN employees.

Over 190 UN employees have lost their lives in Gaza since the conflict started, according to Guterres.

After Hamas launched a cross-border raid on southern Israel that left dead and hostages in its wake, Israel responded with a military campaign.

According to the health ministry of Gaza, over 35,090 people have died there since then.
